It helps prevents zero runs (which are then converted into wins in the WAR formula). It is a large part of a player’s value (not as big as hitting, but still significant)

Again, Ohtani is great. Amazing. A great hitter. But he doesn’t play defense and that is a part of the game where others who don’t hit as well as him are able to catch up to him, and others that do hit as well as him are able to lap him.
