This post shows a pretty big misunderstanding of how WAR works, specifically the positional adjustment
And attempts to hand wave it away and say it doesn’t hurt his team. It would be better to say that it doesn’t hurt his team, but not playing defense provides zero value. It helps prevents zero runs (which are then converted into wins in the WAR formula). It is a large part of a player’s value (not as big as hitting, but still significant)

Again, Ohtani is great. Amazing. A great hitter. But he doesn’t play defense and that is a part of the game where others who don’t hit as well as him are able to catch up to him, and others that do hit as well as him are able to lap him.

(For the record, he’s been the 5th best hitter in baseball this year, not Top 2 or 3)
