sick dog Pinky. We took her to the vet today as her symptoms were getting worse. Not eating, not moving, shallow breathing and a few others that had us worried.
My wife had read up on these symptoms last night and found they were all pointing to Pyometra. A life-threatening infection in the uterus. Where Pinky is 12+ years old we decided to take her in to be safe.
Well, after getting her checked and then an ultrasound she did have Pyometra. We opted for the surgery and $1,400 dollars later she is out of surgery and doing well and they found a lot of infection. We debated having her put down but she is very close with my daughter who is on her mission and we all love little Pinky very much so I said let's do the surgery so we can have her with us several more years.
I know this goes against what I said a few years ago on here that I would not spend more than $500 to save a dog, but age and longevity of having her in our family sure changed my heart and mind.
12 years ago we initially bought her sister Bella and when the owner showed up to bring Bella to our home we saw Pinky and I asked the owner what they were going to do with her. Pinky was the runt and was smaller than Bella and blind in one eye. The owner said no one was interested in her, he then said I will give her to you with Bella if you want. So we took her and the rest is history.
