As Avery said above, it's really good at keeping a bunch of support muscles strong and activated, which helps with every day life and also with all lifts where you lift heavy.
I was taught to do them as part of some physical therapy, and I have continued with them because I like having that strength in my sort muscles. I feel like it helps me move better.
I plan to keep doing them as I age to maintain that ability. I don't want to be a guy who struggles to get off the couch or up of the floor one day.
But if you are going to do those, make sure you learn good technique and have it solid before adding weight, and don't ever plan to lift heavy with this exercise. That's not the point of this one.
