In football I think it's mostly a timing issue, coordination that happens ahead of time. Players should know exactly what's expected ahead and as long as they individually do their part, the play works. I know that's not 100% correct as there are real time reads depending on how the defense lines up, etc, but much more true in football.
In soccer, I think the players have to actually complement each other more by their innate strengths and way of playing and then they have to make way more real time reads, now their teammates tendencies/proclivities because it's not just one play at a time, it's constant flux.
I'm not articulating that super well, but hopefully that makes sense.
