Also, the B12 did throw Utah a life raft. Utah's options for this year in the absence of a B12 invite were either (a) floating adrift to G5 land (see WSU and OSU) or (b) joining the ACC. Either of those options are dramatically worse than the B12 for Utah. Regularly traveling to Texas, which has been an important recruiting location for Utah for years, is not equivalent to running up and down the eastern seaboard every game. The drain on resources from travel and the impact on performance would not have been a positive for Utah's programs. Also, the ACC is not particularly stable right now as FSU and Clemson can't wait to get out, whereas the overwhelming majority of the B12 are in it to build the best conference they can for the long term.
