They evaluate your teams prior season results in the preseason. They then schedule 4 games as best they can with comparable teams to yours from the last season. After game 4 there is a reevaluation and rating of each respective team. You then get your last four games announced which should be a more refined version in terms of pairing up comparable teams. I say more “refined” because they go off of your first 4 game results as opposed to the prior season.
