Congrats on starting a grand adventure! I haven't heard of needing to apply for a "start date" etc but I guess in the last few years everything has gotten more crowded!

Does your permit have a date set to hike the Mt Whitney trail? I know that's a tough one to get otherwise.

CDT took me 140 days and it's 450 miles longer.
