People seem to forget that, not too long ago, the Chiefs weren't actually very good. In fact, they sucked for several years. It wasn't until Alex Smith came that they had significant improvement, and now we see what the combo of Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes has done.
There's a reason why there are 9 teams in the AFC that are within 1 game of getting a playoff spot, and 7 teams in the NFC doing the same. It's because of there is no draft lottery like the NBA, and because there is a hard salary cap, unlike baseball.
Yeah, some teams suck for a while. Trust me, as a Bengals fan, I know what that feels like. But all it takes is the right QB and coach combo, and you go from the laughing stock of the league to a super bowl in 2 years.
That is virtually impossible in any other sports league in the world.
The NFL doesn't do everything right. There are a lot of things that it does dead wrong. However, it does the draft and parity right.
