So in their mind, back-to-back 4-loss seasons and bowl losses with no notable OOC wins make them elite, because they won the PAC and played in the Rose Bowl (never mind that they were tied for 2nd place in the regular season last year). Whereas TCU may have made it to the CFP Final, but they didn't win the PAC or play in the Rose Bowl, therefore they are inferior.

At least this seems to be ute fans' logic.
