You forgot to Google interest rates. Look at the entire decade.
If you compare it to right now, the highest mortgage rates in a decade, compare it to the highest in the 1980’s. My guess is that year was less house affordable than now.
Or just Google house affordability. I think current is better than the 80’s but if not, very close.
