For me, it was a very meaningful part of my younger teenage years and still brings a lot of quality memories. I know my Scout experience was a lot better than most church YM experienced. Great outings. Great high adventures. Two years on camp staff and a lot of great OA activities.
For me, it was fun stuff and got better when I began to connect more with other Scouts that were from non-church troops - that was a difference maker.
It was a big deal in our family when all three of our sons became Eagle Scouts. They each are glad they did it and also have great memories of some of their high adventure outings.
Now? . . . . I'm glad that the church is no longer tied into Scouts.
