But I also agree it's prudent to try and do this in a controlled way. Let's imagine we had done nothing or little and in a few weeks/months the entire US becomes like Wuhan/N. Italy. We might see even more panic, even more hoarding, more loss of faith in the government, and also be in a situation where only the most extreme measures would work. We might not. The fatality rate might be far lower. Italy might be an anomaly. But I just don't think we should throw ourselves down that path without a little more understanding of what we're doing.
