I've swung at balls from pitching machines that threw at MLB speeds before
Its not super difficult to make contact with some of them if they are coming straight down the middle every time. Predictability makes it a lot easier, knowing the location and not facing curves and sliders. But its really hard to make good contact, i.e. something that would actually leave the infield.
