Resume metrics also matter. I’m not saying they don’t. But every efficiency metric favors Clemson
Or Notre Dame, or Miami, or whatever team CB is annoyed is ranked higher than BYU this week. It’s changed weekly.
The OP excluded every single one of those metrics and asked for it to make sense, so there you go. We can’t just exclude things when we don’t like them. In 2020, BYU’s efficiency metrics were amazing and we were all quoting them left and right.
