Intervention Needed
He wasn't able to recruit at the level needed to win post season.
We haven't really ever had any coaches who won much in the post season.

Mark getting that UK job did take a few pinches of magic. You do have to wonder if that didn't push im over the top.

At the time, he seemed all in to me

Is KY a BYU man? He didn't go to school here.

He's more or less said the only school he'd have come to college for was BYU

he also said that the byu job became more attractive once byu joined the big 12.

It's clearly a combination of things. But KY is a big relationships guy

So long as he's married and we don't treat her like Sister Mendenhall he'll stay

He didn’t start out a cougar, but he married into the family. Literally.

To me he came across as a used car salesman. Lots of talk. None of it seemed

That's not true. Last season we were better that Duquesne. Winning in postseason

If you follow those Cinderellas they often have under-rated but pro ready

Duquesne had NBA talent? BYU had borderline NBA talent (TBD)

Blame him all you wish but we were overwhelmed by their defensive presence.

Frank Arnold could win in the post season.

Not really. The stars aligned perfectly for Pope to leave AND he knew BYU wasn't gonna give him the support he wanted.

It honestly didn't matter the level of support BYU gave him.

That's quite true, BUT we were gonna lose him to another program sooner than later because of our restrictive ways.

The real reason is he left. Before that almost everyone loved him.

No, his teams always folded like a cheap suit

No cheaper than any team in most of our lifetimes without a player named Jimmer.

We've had one other coach in recent memory. That coach actually had some wins

Mark Pope was NEVER universally loved by our fanbase. There was too much resentment in the inner circles of BYU's own

He ticked off the local yokals who didn't start Utah County stars.
Archaea
Nov 4, 5:09pm
That was part of it. Those yokals were fueled by many of the same people who were poisoning the instate recruiting wells

Since when has that been the gold standard for being a successful BYU bball HC?

It seemed to arise very strongly in his third season in a way I never remember before at BYU.
