Batty was the "read" in "read option". He went in unblocked, and the QB has to read him. He cannot be expected to cover 2 people at once. Defending a read option requires that you assign someone to the QB and someone to the RB. Based on the amount of times Batty crashed into the RB tells me that likely he was assigned to the RB. I highly doubt an experienced D Lineman made a mistake like that numerous times in the game. The problem was that it was clear we had nobody assigned to the QB. Like wide open. I was astonished this wasn't corrected in-game. I trust Hill to correct it this week.
