IDK, I'm an engineer and what you describe for the hunting sounds normal. For
the past 10 years or so, every time I'm job hunting it's 100 applications/resumes and maybe interviews with 20 companies before landing something that is sort of a fit. I usually expect about 4-10 months of searching. This is in electronics.

In my 20+ year career, I still haven't managed to find a long-term fit that's the right role for what I do, despite being open to a wide range of compensation and locations. The roles exist, but someone already always has them and I can't get in the door. I work in a saturated field with too many candidates, so that's what happens.
