In 2001 and 2020, BYU played insanely weak schedules.
2020 because of Covid. 2001 because of circumstance. 2001 looks ok on paper, but when you dig in, it's just a pitiful lineup.
BYU got crushed by the two best teams we faced in 2001.
Tulane: 3-9
Nevada: 3-8
Cal: 1-10
UNLV: 4-7
Utah State: 4-7
New Mexico: 6-5
Air Force: 6-6
San Diego State: 3-8
Colorado State: 7-5
Wyoming: 2-9
Utah: 8-4
Mississippi State: 3-8
The few decent MWC teams we played clawed their way to decent records by feasting on what was an unusually weak year in the conference.
Losses:
Hawaii: 9-3. 70-35
Louisville: 11-2. 28-10
