However I think fans could to better to acknowledge this is new territory for BYU. As good as Lavell was, he wasn’t in a conference this good. Some of his 90’s teams very well could have been .500 or under in a major conference.
The competition on the field and arms race in facilities and resources off the field are real and BYU has work to do to keep up IMO. I’d go as far to say it’s *not* reasonable to expect consistent competitiveness *if* BYU doesn’t keep up in all ways.
In 2024 it’s not enough to just have a good coach, you have to have a good everything.
