Perhaps I’m just a bit shocked. We have several children. None have had cavities. We practice excellent oral care in our family (brush and floss every day). I would say good genetics as well; my wife and I have needed minimal dental work throughout our lives. This dentist even joked once that he isn’t going to make any money off of me. Probably not the best joke in retrospect.

It’s a shock to go from nothing to five cavities in six months. It’s also the manner in which it came about. The dentist spent about 30 seconds with me before saying I needed a crown and then left the room. Today with my daughter, he didn’t even talk to me. Then they ask for a down payment to set the appointment. The most similar thing I can compare it to is being at a car dealership. Perhaps that is the real problem.

Please don’t take offense as this wasn’t meant to be any sort of generalization of dentists in general. It’s just one experience with one person that I am uneasy about.
