I drive a Model 3 Performance and I feel blessed to afford and drive such a reactive and fun car. I still punch it EVERY morning on the onramp and on the backroad I take to work! But I only recommend an EV if you can charge at home/work.
While true Tesla fans will say Supercharging is just as good as the gas station, it's not. Drive past a supercharging station you will see over half the cars have people sitting in their car waiting for it to charge. This is a sign people are just wasting time. (My thoughts ofcourse)
Lastly, If I were to buy an EV today. . . I would go one of 3 routes.
Most likely, get a Truck. Getting a used F150 Lightning for 40K. Sure it doesn't have much range, but those trucks are AWESOME! It is a very cool truck at a great price. (Would not be able to tow or take it on a road trip. . . Battery pack is too small)
2nd, Get the Chevy Bolt EUV. Save some serious scratch. Definitely not as good of a car, but I am currently at the "Build a nest egg" portion of my life, and I could have saved some serious scratch.
3rd, Yolo - I love the look of the Lucid Air, plus having 500 miles of range, I would only need to stop and charge once per trip. Heck, I could leave Friday after work, get a hotel and do some sight seeing for the night, and then get to my destination without even needing to fast charge. That or get the Model S plaid . . . Also an amazing car.
