Parking company both times lied through their teeth about the situation claiming the car didn't have a parking sticker. We eventually had to get the Provo police department involved and threatened pressing criminal charges against the tow company. Even after the tow company realized they were screwed over and caught in a lie, they kept offering to make it all go away if we'd pay the tow charge.

Predatory towing absolutely is a thing in Utah County. Just because you didn't engage in it doesn't mean it doesn't exist on other properties and with other tow companies that you don's use.
