Resulted in WYO losing its perch as the premiere program in the conference/region at the time. Further, within a few years Lavell Edwards led BYU on its rise and it became the hegemonic power in the conference/region.

So BYU played a role in WYO’s drop and then exploited that drop to cement itself as the power. That made WYO fans upset and they had a real long time to stew in that bitterness watching BYU consistently achieve great things on the gridiron.
