... for Miles and plays to his speed and explosiveness vs just a smash mouth run up the middle. I think if you go back through the game you'd see a number of examples where Arod called plays based on who he had on the field. For example that 2 pt conversion pass to Keanu Hill seemed like another tailor-made play call to match a bigger-stronger/more experienced receiver with sure hands on the outside vs a smaller defender.
The run calls for Nawahine were mostly straight ahead and I don't recall any for him to run off tackle or around the end because he's more of a downhill runner. He did a nice job picking his hole, planting his foot in the ground and getting upfield.
In the SIU game we converted a couple of 4th and short situations by having Chase run a slant to the inside and Jake throw a quick pass. They were bang-bang plays that moved the chains and kept drives going. These were noteworthy because the quick inside slant route hasn't been part of Arod's offense prior to this but it took advantage of a matchup strength we had.
Another example, the deep ball to Keelan Marion vs SMU. He used his speed to get space on the corner but Jake's throw was inaccurate and thrown to the wrong shoulder, forcing Marion to have to adjust and turn the other way.
The OC can only call the play, he doesn't execute it as well. That's on the QB.
