I don’t know if it’s “huge”. With the switch to DH for the NL, the impact of
A hitter like Ohtani can’t be overstated. Every team is going to have some guy that doesn’t play defense. When that guy is having a historic hitting year, and the team can field quality defensive players like the Dodgers, His lack of playing defense doesn’t hurt the team at all. By certain metrics, they don’t give him as much credit. And yet, a guy like Judge who is not a quality defender, gets more credit.

In the end, I think it’s OK to look at Ohtani’s hitting numbers and say that he is one of the two or three best hitters in baseball. His lack of defensive production isn’t a negative because he doesn’t play defense. So using a metric that measures both offense and defense to define him probably isn’t the best way to define him or rate him against other players.

And that list of 150 players or whatever contains 149 players that would be traded for Ohtani straight up in a heartbeat.
