I tend to be someone who would prefer to suffer less during the day (packing pretty light/ultralight) and give up some of the night time comforts. So I just tried to get as light weight as I could.
My base weight (weight of all my gear minus food, water, and fuel) was just under 15lbs (14.75). That includes a Bear can which was just over 3lbs itself.
So I definitely prioritized the more expensive but lightweight gear, especially for my son who weighs much less than I do. 30lbs for me is a lot less % of bodyweight than it is for him.
