You're missing the point. It's not HIS situation to deal with. He's

supposed to stay out of it. The matter at that early stage involves the defendant, the victim, and the law enforcement agency. The coach may have a strong interest in the outcome just like a lot of other people do, but it's not his jurisdiction to do the initial investigation. Otherwise, the whole matter becomes tainted.
