There's no downside to having a <250g drone without RID. It's ideal in fact. If you get your part 107 license, you
would just have to get the bigger battery to force it to turn on RID since part 107 flights have to be registered and have RID on regardless of weight. But if you're not going to become a pro and you're just doing it for fun, the there's no downside. I've never had any issues with having RID on, but it does make me nervous because I'm not always flying things perfectly legally.

With RID turned off it makes it a lot easier to bend the rules without getting caught 🙂
