Future babies have a 1 in 4 chance of being affected if the inheritance is a simple autosomal recessive inherited trait, but often inheritance is more complicated than that.
Surrogate would be for if the problem is the mom can’t or doesn’t want to carry the child. Doesn’t seem to be the case here.
There are a lot of things that can be done through IVF, but I wouldn’t describe it as removing a bad gene or creating a genetically altered baby, but rather creating multiple embryos, finding which one that doesn’t have the genetic defect and implanting that one.
