I don't know that's the definition of thru hiking.

To me, thru hiking means a continuous footpath from the origin to the destination in one calendar year. If someone has a different definition of what a thru hiker is than that, I'm ok with that, but I know of lots of famous thru hikers that take breaks in the middle of their treks. I plan to take some breaks too.
