Any caloric deficit with low protein and poor food choices without resistance training does lead to weight loss but more of a combo of fat AND muscle loss (creating the “skinny fat” effect).
Focusing on lifting and high protein led me to lose 8 cm off the waist with minimal weight loss. If someone just focuses on the scale they’d be frustrated at that. I’m certainly not.
