were taken off shore by boat and told to take a flotation cushion since we weren't close to shore. Well, one of the girls didn't hear that and just got in and so we were in snorkeling for a minute and I saw she didn't have a flotation pad and was like "What the heck? Where's your cushion?!" We were a little snippy with each other, things like "Come on, didn't you listen?" but I ended up giving her mine. As we were arguing, we had been drifting a bit away from the crowd and the boat. I started snorkeling the opposite direction and after a couple minutes realized a strong current had been pulling me towards a large rock protruding from the water and that a large opening that was sucking the surrounding water into. At this point, I obviously didn't have my flotation pad or a lifejacket (the pads were these hybrid things that acted as life preserver AND held you in a good snorkeling position) and the current was quite strong. As the water would rise and fall, waves would crash into the opening. I still remember the loud crashing noise and knowing that every one was pulling me in closer. I couldn't get out of the current, and no one was anywhere close to me to hear me yelling. I swam as hard as I could but just kept getting pulled in closer and could see if I got pulled into the opening, I'd not only be smashed against the rock and probably knocked unconscious, but then dragged under the water. I got pretty close to getting pulled under (probably just another couple of waves and I would have been on the next one getting smashed into the rocks) when a motor boat came from around the corner quite quickly and threw me a line and pulled me out of the water. Some people on my original boat had seen me struggling and the captain radioed a closer boat to help me. My sister had returned to that boat by now and she, along with my parents, had been commenting about "Oh my, look at that man out there struggling, I hope he's OK" and didn't realize it was actually ME they were looking at.
