My parents re-did their backyard like that
They took out all the grass and made their patio much larger and put in rocks and wood chips everywhere else. It requires much less maintenance and honestly looks a ton better than just a normal yard

I’m fine with a well-xeriscaped lawn, but can’t stand people who just put down rocks and call it xeriscape.
