Arrogance cuts both ways. The availability of enough information to make you
conversant on a topic can lead us to think we see more clearly than people who have a lot more knowledge on the topic and have worked through complexities we haven't even recognized yet. And while it's certainly possible that being too close to a subject can make you lose perspective on it, we overapply that assumption to convince ourselves that our conclusions are more valid than an expert's.
