I think you are correct in that the data is dirty and incomplete. The problem
is we don’t have time to be super picky about the data. When actions are made with dirty data there’s always a tendency to revert to the null hypothesis. As a public health official Fauci can’t just do nothing and claim he didn’t have clean statistically significant data.

Many want to know the sens/spec of the testing. Well, there’s no such thing. This is a novel disease and therefore our tests are defining the population. There is no gold standard to compare to I order to determine false positives or false negatives.
