The new NCAA rules have mandated that college soccer rosters max out at 28 players. She's been playing at a school with nearly 40 on their roster, much like most D1 schools. They found out yesterday that the school has accepted the new NCAA rules regarding profit sharing/scholarships/etc....and today was the day that the coaches were forced to cut the roster down. Around 16 girls (after graduating seniors) were told today that they needed to enter the transfer portal. They are only going into spring season with 18 b/c of their incoming class of 10 in 2025.
She was highly recruited, but injured and redshirting...so she and my wife and I were a little nervous. Fortunately, she was told she's staying on the roster and a focus point of their program moving forward. She is a true freshman as well.
I feel terrible for many of her friends who won't have the same information given to them today. Girls from all over the country, now being told because of new NCAA rules, that they either have to hope to transfer, or their soccer playing careers are over.
