We opened the hive for an inspection two weeks after the move and found, sadly, that we had no queen. Very little capped brood left, and no sign of larvae or eggs.
So, found a place in NoCal that still had mated queens available this late in the year and had one shipped down to us. Put her cage in the hive on Wednesday two weeks ago, and by Saturday afternoon they had released her from the cage.
Have been feeding them a 1:1 sugar syrup mix since the first hive check, and they’ve done a pretty good job drawing out the comb on the new foundation frame, and adding to the existing natural comb.
Started adding in pollen and amino B supplements into the sugar syrup when I put the queen cage in.
Opened it up today for the first time since confirming the queen was released. Several frames with capped worker brood, so adding the queen was successful and she is doing her job. 👍
Moved some of the partial frames of natural comb to a second deep box and replaced in bottom box with waxed foundation frames for them to draw out.
This is a fun journey.
