of the twins gave birth to a child that lived only a few minutes. It turns out the baby had major kidney issues. A previous child had been born with only one kidney but was healthy otherwise. It turns out that both were impacted by the same genetically-inherited condition that affects the kidneys. This was discovered only after the birth of the second child.
The second twin is now pregnant with a child that suffers from the same condition and will not be born alive if allowed to go full-term. The decision has been made to terminate the pregnancy next week at a little less than six months. They are doing this since the baby is still alive and the parents want to meet their child if even for only a few minutes and say goodbye before she passes.
Neither of the twins has any kidney-related issues but they are, apparently, both carriers of the condition and have now passed it on to their children. A very tough situation indeed and now both girls are very concerned about becoming pregnant again even though they both have healthy children from previous pregnancies.
