or breathe new life into a stadium. Eden Park was built piece by piece and had three main distinct sections of stands, kind of like how we have four. The shape itself was much harder to deal with because it needs to accommodate cricket as well as rugby, but overall they did a good job of vastly expanding the capacity of the stadium. One of the main concerns was the height of the structure and the views, which is similar to what we face in Provo. For us we want to maintain the mountain views to the east. With Eden Park it was more of not creating a massive 200 foot wall right next to houses. As a result you have seating areas that are low and allow an outside view of the surroundings, and in others you have three tiers of seating. Since the 2008-2011 remodeling, Eden Park has held the Rugby World Cup final and other major events. It has all the amenities of a modern world class stadium, yet it retains its feel.

I think we could do something similar with LES. You could still maintain the mountain views to the east. You could rebuild one section at a time. The west stands could be multi-tiered with suites as could the north and south stands. You could fill in the northwest and southwest corners to add more seating but leave the northeast and southeast corners open to maintain the views. But ultimately you can do it in a way so that it still feels like LES which is what I want. We need to expand capacity, we need better amenities, but we can do it in a way that maintains the legacy we have built over the years.
