Utah shot really efficiently, hovering above 40% through the first 35 minutes of play. Got greedy with them at the end and started chucking more misses in the final minutes. Their 19 3's made tied their team record which was actually set earlier this week when they opened with Alcorn State and shot 19-38 for 50%. Given Mark Popes goal for BYU to attempt at least 35 3's every game last season, these attempts by both BYU and Utah thus far this year are eye-popping. This new NBA style of launching as many or more 3's than 2's is catching on apparently.

Overall it appears BYU and Utah would be pretty closely matched going off all these stats. I think it would be quite a close back and forth game if they played this weekend. Utah showed they can light it up just as much and even more efficiently from behind the arc than BYU showed. Utah doesn't have anyone like Egor Demin, but they do spread the ball around well as a team. They looked every bit as long and tall vs Central Arkansas as BYU did.

It is notable that this was Utah's 2nd game, so they had the benefit of being able to improve some things from their first game, while for BYU, it was their first game in playing Central Arkansas. It'll be interesting to see how much more improved BYU can be on defense and their offensive rhythm and overall shooting percentages tomorrow night vs UC-Riverside. I'm hopeful BYU's overall talent can gel better and better together as the season progresses and rise to the higher ceiling they have than Utah's roster has, but Utah will still be dangerous with their ability to shoot the 3.
