I haven’t seen this talked about a lot but this was a long-overdue move by BYUFB, appointing a 1) former player who is 2) Smart 3) good with people and 4) well-respected to “Oversee and coordinate all health and performance-related disciplines for BYU football including sport science, athletic training/sports medicine, strength and conditioning, nutrition, mental health/performance, and rehabilitation”
Previously, the conditioning/weight room, nutrition, and medical staffs all operated in separate silos and there was extreme dysfunction when they had to interact.
I know Colby well and he is an A+ guy, so I'm not surprised to see him be successful. I have not seen a lot of publicity around this move, maybe it’s already been discussed a lot. But I’d like to hear one of the beat reporters ask Kalani about Colby’s contributions just to get his thoughts.
Ive been able to attend a couple of practices during the season and Colby is always off on the side training and rehabbing injured players. Very hands on. Running with them and coaching them. Cool to see.
