One of the favorite things of mine about these Ute fans is that a large portion of them still actually believe an invite to either of these leagues is a possibility. Even the head coach has these delusions of grandeur.
I’m not saying that BYU will ever get invited…but what is nice about being on a bigger stage is that everybody now is seeing how BYU is probably a value-add to any conference. We have the fans, we have the facilities, we bring high quality basketball along with excellent Olympic sports.
I don’t see where the Utes would be able to demonstrate that they are a smarter choice in any metric if invites were to be thrown around again. Neither BYU or the Utes will likely ever receive this kind of invite but if they did, it seems much more of a rational business decision to invite BYU.
I guess the only thing they have over us is Sunday play and “research”. But BYU is now showing that the Sunday issue can easily be accommodated in a power league and with the construction of the medical school I would anticipate we can make the “research” disparity less of an issue.
Can you think of any reason why the University of Utah would be more appealing to the SEC or Big 10? I really can’t
