I understand the consternation surrounding the 2024 QB room. Gerry Bohannon and Jake Retzlaff both have major question marks. And I understand the distress over some of the recent QB recruiting whiffs.
But our 3 best young QB's in the pipeline are all good potential QB1 prospects. I think many Cougar fans are overlooking these 3 guys:
McCae Hillstead: Former Wazzu lean who ended up signing with USU flashed some serious potential as a true freshman in Ogden. In particular his 2 very strong performances against high quality G5 teams in James Madison and Air Force. Hillstead has sub 11.00 100m speed that will be put to good use by ARod's RPO sets. When he hit the portal Utah offered him and Blair Angulo of 247 reported he was a "hot name in the portal receiving lots of interest from Big 10 and SEC programs". I would not be surprised at all to see Hillstead come in and make a lot of noise this Fall camp. I really like his potential with 3 years of eligibility left.
Noah Lugo: The 6'2 freshman from Haslet, TX is an outstanding athlete and serious dual threat talent. That kid has a second gear and runs away from DB's. He was an 85 grade 3-star with offers from Indiana and a bunch of G5's. I like this kid's ceiling. He reminds me of a Beau Hoge type of athlete but with a stronger arm. And I like Texas QB's, I think they face competition out there that kids on the west coast wouldn't understand. BYU did pretty well with one back in the 90's.
Enoch Watson: 6'3 QB from Queen Creek, AZ. Led the state of Arizona in passing yards as a senior while producing an amazing 29-3 TD-INT ratio. 85 grade 3-star was starting to get serious interest from Arizona before committing to BYU. On a mission right now, will have time to develop behind Hillstead and Lugo.
