Santiago is a smart guy. Does many good things. Don't think BYU would have KY were it not for Santiago because timing
was so critical. He stayed in close contact with Kevin Young over the last 5 years and BYU might have missed the extremely tight window for Young's availability were it not for Santiago serving as communication go between with KY and Holmoe.
BYU almost certainly would have missed out without Brian's prompt communications with Young. BYU having vetted KY 5 years earlier enabled them to act with uncharacteristic lightening speed. Basically it came down to KY having two offers in his hand and 24 grueling hours to choose. Without BS, pretty sure KY would be Nets Head Coach.
I'm not certain about the above sequence, But I doubt it's far off.
