There are different kinds of tragedies, to be sure.
I am sad for anyone who has to deal with a family member who has been injured.
How badly I feel for the injured person is probably proportional to their personal responsibility in the matter.
I would feel bad for a race car driver who was injured if some mechanical issue lead to a crash. I would probably feel a bit less bad if the driver was particularly reckless, resulting in a crash.
And I would feel bad for a hunter who was mauled by a bear - but I'd feel considerably less bad for him if he decided he wanted to slap the bear on the butt before shooting it.
