So I definitely feel very good about Brock Harris committing to BYU in a few hours. And was reading up on his statements and he gave three priorities (in order)
- A place that throws the ball to the Tight End
- A place he feels comfortable and happy
- The coaches and guys he'll be around
Obviously points 2 and 3 are more ambiguous, but I know we have a reputation (on this board at least) for not using the TE, so wanted to see how it stacked up with his other finalists in the post COVID year (so the last 4 years) to see if there's any merit to that claim
- Georgia 318 (75, 96, 85, 62)
- Utah 278 (102, 111, 13, 52)
- Michigan 268 (57, 62, 70, 79)
- Oregon 243 (41, 58, 67, 77)
- Miami 172 (36, 61, 18, 57)
- BYU 136 (47, 32, 38, 19)
None of this is to say that we CAN'T throw the ball to the TE, and I still think we're the favorite for Harris, but after he said it's his #1 priority, I can guarantee those other schools are pointing out our history.
Especially when Michigan can point to their last three TEs (Erick All, Luke Schoonmaker, Colston Loveland) playing snaps in the NFL. Utah has Kincaid drafted, with Yasmin and Fotheringham on practice squads. Georgia has Brock Bowers dominating and Darnell Washington also getting snaps
That said, I do still think he chooses BYU 3 hours from now - just too much smoke that he prefers us. I'm just maybe a bit more nervous than I was before looking at those numbers
