Still no bigger news today so I guess I’ll chime in with everyone else.
—Hall is one of the better 1’s we’ve had in the modern era of BYU basketball, period.
—He was not perfect, but last year’s (2023) ask of him was borderline absurd with the minutes we needed him to play to run our offense while simultaneously requiring him to guard excellent, Big 12 caliber scorers. We made it to the NCAA tournament in our inaugural Big 12 season with Hall executing this role
—He’s underrated and underappreciated athletically. The same group that jokes about players being “sneaky athletic“ often simultaneously discounts Hall. He had the explosion to throw down the alley oop highlight dunk earlier this year while also guarding the opponent’s post player on switches in another crucial Big 12 game. Almost no BYU PGs have had his strength & quickness combo.
—He had to play a lesser but vital role this year. He had good, bad, and great performances. He was often on the floor at the end of the game for good reason though, and we are not in the Sweet 16 without him.
—He has constantly said he wants to test himself against the best. If he doesn’t have a clear path to be the guy to run the show at the 1 in Provo, his departure is not surprising.
—He’s been an excellent teammate and his effort is not in question. He has been part of some all-time great plays and great moments at BYU.
—I’d take him back in a heartbeat in the same role he played last year. With the right talent around him, I’d take him as our main point guard. For whatever reason, it appears his interests and those of BYU under Coach Young don’t currently align sufficiently.
—I hope he kills it wherever he goes, as long as that place is not Utah. If he does that, he’s dead to me.
