Mostlyaccurate All-American
Thoughts on Dybantsa's play in the McDonalds All American game.
Dybantsa had a good night. It's hard to have a bad night in an all star game but it was still fun to watch him. Here's some of my thoughts on the game.

1. Dybantsa is a straight scorer. His footwork and pacing is elite. He did a lot of his work out of the post yesterday, using a series of ball fakes and footwork to get to the basket. Ended up going 7-12 on the night while scoring 17 points.
2. Like all great scorers, Dybantsa knows how to draw fouls. His herky jerky technique causes guys to reach or crash into him and he's not afraid to accentuate the foul. We'll see how this plays out in college. KY has talked about how defenders can get away with being more physical in college. Dybantsa will have to learn how to take the foul and finish strong.
3. Dybantsa loves the euro step. He creates a lot of separation between him and his defender because his strides are so long. I'm curious to see how this plays out in college. College doesn't have the gather step, and some of Dybantsa's moves might get called as a travel. He might have to adjust here.
4. His defense and effort were admirable at times. He seemed excited to guard the opponents best player, but there were times when he looked tired. It was an all star game, so it's not a big deal.
5. Some all stars have to be pushed into driving to the basket more. They're passive and end up shooting a lot of threes or long 2s. That's not Dybantsa. He's a killer. He wants to take his man off the dribble and score in their face. There won't be any issue with him wanting to shoot a bunch of threes. Dybantsa didn't shoot a single 3 last night.
6. There were a lot of great players on the west team, BUT IMO you could tell Dybantsa was the best player on the floor. When the game got close, the west would go to Dybantsa. He received the most attention on defense, with his defender trying to deny him the ball most of the night. Peterson played well, but the East's focus on Dybantsa gave Peterson more space. There was a play in the 4th (a zoom action) where Peterson threw the ball ahead to Dybantsa and then came for a handoff. Dybantsa dropped it off to Peterson and he scored a wide open dunk, because both guys were too focused on AJ.

Please feel free to add your takes and what you thought.
