75 years or more ago when book covers started having pictures, excerpts, and synopsis’s on their covers. And even before that, the title usually gave you a clue about what the books was all about. For the most part, this applies to most of us humans as well.
Now, is that a steadfast rule for all books or humans? Of course not. But is it usually the case, rather than the exception? Yup.
And does the books or humans “cover” mean they are a “bad” or “good” person by however society, or someone’s or groups particular morals and ethics deem those words to mean? Of course not.
And of course, “it’s not our place to judge anyone.”Except we do. And except it’s literally part of our biological, programmed in coding to survive.
But I digress.
My ultimate point is that if Catchings had been abnormally looking like a miserable, unemotional, apathetic, and non cheering on his teammates and teams succes(especially after the biggest win in the program in 15 years) player since the blue and white game. Then we could maybe have reason to think it’s just his personality or whatever. But he wasn’t. I watched every single second of BYU basketball this season and while he was always a little reserved, he changed his body language and demeanor drastically around the time he lost his starting position, and it grew more and more as his minutes got less and less.
When I was 18. And if I was insanely athletic and talented as he is, I honestly probably would have done the same. If not worse.
But let’s stop pretending it’s not a thing. Or trying to hold on to the small chance that we all are just misinterpreting his behavior. That’s just dumb and naive.
Whether he stays or goes (I’ll be shocked if he stays), doesn’t change his poor form.
And just like most of you, I too would like to see him succeed wherever he goes. But also wish he had shown better form and attitude, like Crawford did, despite Crawford, another high rated and talented player, getting way less opportunities try an Catchings.
Catching, like Demin, was given every opportunity and chance to prove he was the best option Thai year. And he wasn’t the best option for the team to be successful. Period.
