Interesting that in the kenpom era, the defenses for first-year BYU coaches was
one of the worst of their tenure.

In fact, Cleveland's first year was his worst defense and his last year was his second worst.

Dave Rose's first year was his second-worst defense and his last year was his worst.

Mark Pope's last year in his tenure was his worst defense and even though his first year wasn't his worst or second worst, there was a BIG improvement from Year 1 to Year 2.

From an offensive standpoint,

Cleveland's first year was his worst offense. Rose inherited a good team and his first-year offense was his 5th worst and he has a significant improvement from Year 1 to Year 2. Pope inherited a REALLY good team and his offense got better by the time he was done.

It's crazy that KY has the best offense EVER at BYU in Year 1 and while his defense wasn't great, it should be expected that this could very well be his worst defense for a LONG time and that his offense will continue to be as efficient or better.
